Digital Scrapbooking 101

Sorry I've been a bit AWOL lately...we've been super busy here. I have been thinking about another question though.

KITS??? Do you prefer to scrap with a coordinated kit, or do you prefer to pull elements together from different designers, kits, stores, etc? Does using a kit make it easier for you, or do you enjoy the challenge of coordinating separate elements on your own?

My response:

Sometimes I think it's nice and convenient to have coordinating products to work with, especially if I like all the elements of the kit. My problem comes when I only like "X" paper, and "Y" embellishment from said kit and then I end up pulling from other sources.

When I first started, I really only stuck to kits because I didn't feel comfortable enough yet to branch out. But, now I have so much stuff from so many awesome designers that I like to just pile it all on there. It also helps me to use what I have and know my stash.

Aly I am totally with you! Sometimes a complete kit just jumps out and grabs ya and you love each item but sometimes you only like certain pieces. So sometimes I use a kit and sometimes I scrap from lots of different kits! :)

I pick colors ...sounds weird I know but I pretty much know what is in my stash & if I don't get lazy I go searching for 1 tiny little thin I know I have. I have been know to use 1 kit for layouts but I like a variety.

I prefer to mix it up if I can .

I am most comfortable using a kit and probably will continue to be until time isn't an issue. I find a waste a lot of time looking for things that go together otherwise.

When i do a Layout or start with one. I end up in a Kit. I have a picture and then i search Elements and recolor them. In the End i have always a huge Kit somehow. I always use my own Kits for Layouts. For me is that as well the fun on creating a Layout to create all together that it fits in color and style

Personally I seem to never use all the items from one kit. I like to pull from here and there depending on what I am looking for. I find that in larger kits there are so many things I will never use. Hense, that is why the only kits I create are mini kits. Other then that I make individual elements that will bring what I'm looking for to a page. I know some people like the larger kits but I would be surprised if anyone actually uses all the elements in one. Since digital scrapbooking is a real 'hard drive hog', I tend to delete right away the things in a kit I know I will never use, especially papers that I just don't find appealing.

To see what I mean about 'Mini Kit's you can go here.

I love kits. I almost always use coordinated kits. I really need to get one of those programs where I can see all of my items at once, though, because I know I have a staple somewhere and can't find it, or something like that.
