I have a 24 x 12 Layered Template in PSD format. I would like to ask how to use this. Should I split it in two 12 x 12 pages FIRST, or complete the layout in the 24 x 12 format and then split?
How do I split it? Crop?
I use Windows Vista and PSE 7. Thank you very much.
I use Pixelmator, but I think the process would be the same.
I create a 24 x 12 layout, save that as my PSD file, then crop one side of the page, flatten and "save as" so I have a 12 x12 to upload, then undo and repeat with the other side.
If you are having the pages printed and bound into a book, you need to make sure you leave a "gutter" in the middle of your template and "bleed off" on the edges. Typically for books you should leave a total of 6/8 inch in the middle (3/8 inch on each side of the spread). Don't put important parts of your page in this gap, because when the book is bound, it will be sewn into the binding.
For the edges of your page, leave 1/4 inch border on the bottom, side, and top. The book binders trim that portion off to square up the books after printing.
Christine,
Thank you very much and thanks for the referral to simplyyin. I'm creatively challenged and a template really helps me get a layout done....I think I understand how to split the template now. I'm a good bit away from having a book printed but I wanted to get off on the right foot so I don't have a pile of redo later. Thanks again for the great tips.
