Good Things: Pantone's New iPhone App
For those of us who find inspiration in the colors and images found in everyday things there is the new Pantone iPhone application.
Sure, graphic designers who are Pantone fans will go crazy over the portability of this new application which includes color schemes from these color system libraries: PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM, PANTONE Goe, PANTONE Pastels, PANTONE FASHION + HOME. It also includes sRGB, HTML and L*a*b* for all colors.
My favorite part of the app? I can take a photo with my iphone or inspiration photo from the web that is shared with my iPhone like this one:
I love the colors and the new Pantone App develops a color scheme from this photo that I can export in many different ways: email an HTML image of the palette, email color palettes that can be used in Adobe Creative Suite, Quark XPress and Corel Draw. You can also upload them to the Pantone.com palette sharing website.
Even more - not only does this application allow GPS tagging of palettes, you can also post notifications of your new palettes to Twitter and Facebook.
For me, being able to take a photo with my iPhone like the one above and then know very quickly that the pink is Pantone 493 C (RGB 215 131 150) is VERY COOL. Now when I see something I love, very quickly I can snap a photo with my iPhone and know exactly what that color translates to in Photoshop.
So many fun things you could do - especially for hybrid scrapbookers looking to match their digital creations with traditional lines of product.
The $10 price tag is more than worth it in my opinion. When you consider (as one reviewer on the application has already pointed out) that you get more usability and functionality with the $10 paid for this app then you would spending $200 to purchase the Color Bridge sets, it is a no brainer.
